As a digital agency, web hosting is something we can’t do without, and while we use the more expensive premium hosting for our clients, we also have a LOT of side-projects that need hosting as well, and for those, we use the cheaper options. At the moment, we have hosting accounts with 30+ companies!
So when it comes to getting a?decent insight into the best cheap?web hosting companies for Australia, you’ve come to the right place!
Below you’ll find our personal top 3 of the best cheap web hosting services for Australia. Each of which we analysed, reviewed, and compared to its closest competition to give them a spot on the list. We use the following criteria to give our favourites a spot: Ease of Use, Affordability, and Performance/Power.
Side-note:?We firmly believe that you can get better and more affordable options if you look at US-owned web hosts btw. As long as they have servers in or close to Australia (eg. Singapore <- outperforms a lot of the Australian based hosts), they’re usually the better choice (like our awesome #1,?Hostinger)!

Best Cheapest Web Hosting Australia 2020 – Reviews
Best value web hosting
Hostinger is the one you’re looking for. Not only is it the cheapest on our list, but the quality of their hosting services is on par or sometimes better than their higher-priced competitors, it’s very impressive!
For only USD $0.99, you get a really fast server close to AU (Singapore – the same location we use for our own site’s primary data centre), 10 GB of SSD disk space, 24/7/365 customer support, and free SSL.
They even offer a 30-day money-back guarantee in case you’re not happy!
But the thing that really sets them apart from most of their competition, is the way they onboard new sign-ups. We’ve never been through a setup process that was this smooth (and we’ve set up a LOT of hosting accounts over the years). It’s very well-designed and gets you up and running very fast.
In addition, unlike a lot of other web hosts, they don’t use cPanel as their control panel. They custom-built their own, it looks a lot cleaner and is very easy to use.
When it comes to the global reach of their services, aside from their server in Singapore, they also have servers in the United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Lithuania, Singapore, Brazil, or Indonesia. This is great if your target market isn’t in Australia.
They have 3 shared hosting plans, with the cheapest being only USD $0.99/mo (down from $7.99), which really is insane value considering their quality setup. And if you go with their next plan up (still under $3/mo), you get daily backups, unlimited domains, 20GB of disk space, and increased RAM.
They’re a no-brainer in our book!
- Very easy to setup
- Great performance
- Super affordable
- Fast server in Singapore + global network
Best cheap hosting for WordPress
SiteGround is another great web host. Their support is top-notch (via phone, chat, and tickets), the pricing affordable, and the servers fast (again, choose the Singapore server for Aussie sites). SG also comes officially recommended by WordPress, which is pretty darn impressive.
Just like with Hostinger, we really like their global reach, they have data centres in the US, UK, NL, and SG, just in case you ever start targeting a global market.
Add to that a very effective security system (that they custom built in-house), automated back-ups, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Other additional benefits include free SSL to secure your sites, daily backups for peace of mind, and much more.
SG’s cheapest plan starts at only?AUD $6.99/mo (65% off the normal price)!?
- Easy to set up
- Solid security
- Global reach with multiple data centres
- In-house caching system for speedy loading times
- High renewal fees
Best cheap web hosting for eCommerce
HostPapa is another super affordable hosting provider. While they lack some of the fancier features of competitors like SiteGround, they make up for it by providing a LOT of disk space, and very good support.
They do offer some good freebies like a free domain name, free SSL, and a free site transfer if you need it. Aside from the usual shared hosting (the general go-to option for most people), they also offer reseller hosting, VPS hosting and WordPress hosting, as well as web design services, G Suite, and Office 365 integration support.
One downside is that their servers are not in Australia but in Canada and the US, so loading times will suffer a bit… but then again, you can enable a CDN like Cloudflare (which is free) to push your content around the world and have it running smoothly from anywhere (and it’s not that difficult to set up).
Very affordable at only AUD $3.36/mo!
- 100 GB disk space
- 24/7 support
- Free domain name
- 30-day money-back guarantee
- US servers
4. A2 Hosting
Best cheap hosting for resellers
While A2 Hosting is – in our minds – fantastic for reseller hosting, their cheap shared hosting plans are also impressive. They offer all the usual features you’d expect from a decent host, at an pretty affordable cost of USD $3.92/mo.
They offer SSD hosting for speed, unlimited disk space, a fast Singapore-based data centre for Australian sites (like SiteGround), and 24/7 support.
The thing that sets them apart from their competition is their anytime money-back guarantee… though we haven’t tested it yet.
They offer 3 shared hosting packages, their cheapest plan starts at only USD?$3.92/mo (around AUD $5.22/mo).
- 4 global servers
- Unlimited disk space
- Anytime money back guarantee
- USD costs
Great cheap hosting for blogs
GreenGeeks is mainly known for their eco-friendly way of running their company,?they’re putting back 300% of the energy they use back onto the grid which is very nice.
As for their actual hosting services, it’s very similar to A2 Hosting, but minus the Singapore data centre, meaning you’d be hosting in the US, which will result in slightly longer loading times. What we really like though, is the way they handle security. They’ve built their own security system to keep all their data centres squeaky clean. And as for speed, they run on SSDs and support PHP7, combine those 2 and you might not even notice the delay from the US servers that much.
GreenGeeks offers shared web hosting (great for small businesses and blogs), reseller hosting, dedicated servers, WordPress hosting, and VPS hosting. They also have a 30-day money-back guarantee if you’re not happy with their services.
Their cheapest plan starts at USD $2.95/mo.
- Super green
- Great support
- Unlimited disk space
- No servers in or near Australia
HostingCloud is a new host, a 100% Australian budget host. What we like is the price (AUD $2.50 is really cheap), the SSD hosting (great for speed), and the free SSL certificates.
Where we think they probably could do better is support options, as at the moment, we only see support tickets… and disk space, which is only 5 GB. But then again, at $2.50, the value to cost ratio is still very very impressive.
And they also offer free cPanel migrations, have 7-day backup retention, and DDOS protection. All in all, not bad!
- Very affordable
- Free SSL
- Might need better support options
- No overseas servers
MediaFortress might look like an odd one on this list, as they are more expensive than your usual host, and offer very little disk space (only 1 GB). The reason they’re on the list is because of their additional services. They’re also a marketing agency, which means that if you want an actual website with your hosting, they can do that. Do you need SEO or PPC, what about social media campaigns? Yup, they do that as well.
They’re a bit of a one-stop shop for the digital side of your business and are 100% Australian. So that’s basically why we’ve put them on the list… just in case someone is looking for a one-stop digital marketing shop.
Their cheapest plan starts at AUD $7.70/mo.
- One-stop digital marketing shop
- 100% Australian
Bluehost is very well known, and while they had a rough patch in the past few years after EIG bought them, they’ve been gradually improving both support and their hosting services.
They offer plenty of disk space and decent performance at an affordable cost. We also like the variety of support options on offer, everything from a knowledge base, support tickets, live chat, phone, and even video tutorials.
As for hosting plans, they offer the usual shared hosting, WordPress hosting, VPS, dedicated hosting, and cloud hosting. They don’t have any servers in or near Australia though, so a CDN is needed for optimal loading times.
Their cheapest plan starts at USD $3.95/mo.
- Free SSL
- 50 GB disk space
- US servers
- Current reputation isn’t that great
9. Host Geek
HostGeek is another Australia host, with decent enough pricing, but the disk space they offer on their basic plan is very very little, only 400 MB.
That being said, there are 2 reasons they still made the list. 1 is that they have data centres in both Australia and Singapore, the other reason is that – like MediaFortress – they offer a variety of digital marketing services in addition to their core hosting packages.
They offer shared hosting, reseller hosting, VPS, dedicated servers, and more specialised hosting plans for WordPress, Joomla, and Magento. The specialised plans are more expensive but optimised for each CMS.
The cheapest plan starts at AUD $4.58/mo.
- A lot of hosting choices
- 100% Australian
- Only 400 MB disk space
Netregistry is a veteran in the Australian hosting industry. While we’re not a huge fan, they do deserve a mention as they’re very old, offer plenty of disk space with their hosting plans, and also offer web design and digital marketing services.
That being said, their SSL certificates are pretty pricey (basic ones are free with most other hosts) and most of the most recent user reviews online and on fora, aren’t very positive.
- Local host
- Decent amount of disk space
- User reviews
- SSL cost
